Faith-Based Encouragement

For some individuals and families, faith and spiritual connection can provide comfort, strength, and hope during difficult seasons. The following resources are offered for those who wish to explore faith-based encouragement as a complement to professional and community support.

Pastoral Support & Prayer

If you would like to speak with a pastor for prayer, encouragement, or spiritual guidance, the following local resources may be available:

  • Rev. Drew Weseman — Centreville United Methodist Church
Pastoral care, prayer, and confidential spiritual support for individuals and families seeking faith-based encouragement. Availability and response times may vary. Email: pastor@centrevilleumc.org

Availability may vary. This is not a crisis or emergency service.

Spiritual Reflection & Encouragement

Faith-based reflection, prayer, meditation, and spiritual reading can provide grounding and peace during times of grief, stress, or uncertainty. Individuals are encouraged to seek resources that align with their personal beliefs and comfort level.

Additional faith-based resources may be added in the future as parternships develop.

Faith-based resources are offered as optional encouragement and are not a substitute for professional mental health, medical, or crisis care.

How to Help Someone Else

If you’re concerned about someone you care about, knowing what to look for and how to start the conversation can make a meaningful difference. These resources offer guidance on recognizing warning signs, offering support, and taking next steps when needed.

Warning Signs
to Watch For

  • Talking about feeling hopeless, trapped, or like a burden

  • Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities they once enjoyed

  • Noticeable changes in mood, sleep, or behavior

  • Giving away belongings or saying goodbye in unusual ways

  • Increased use of alcohol or substances

If you notice multiple warning signs or escalating behavior, encourage professional support and use crisis resources when needed.

How to Start the Conversation

  • Choose a private, calm moment to talk

  • Share your concern using “I” statements (“I’ve noticed…” / “I’m worried about you…”)

  • Listen without judgment, interruption, or rushing to solutions

  • Validate their feelings even if you don’t fully understand

  • Encourage additional support when appropriate

What to Do If
You’re Worried

  • Stay connected — ongoing check-ins matter

  • Help them identify trusted supports (family, counselor, physician, clergy)

  • If there is immediate danger, contact emergency services or crisis support

  • Do not promise secrecy if safety is at risk

  • Take care of yourself — supporting someone can be emotionally demanding
